Who we are
Unapologetically Christ-centered.
We believe that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and that our only hope is in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We are not a perfect people, we are a forgiven people, wholly dependent on the mercy of God.

We acknowledge what Jesus Himself said: “No one is good but One, that is, God” (Mark 10:18). Our righteousness is not our own, it comes from Him alone. Salvation is not something we can earn; it is a gift of grace through faith. As Ephesians 2:8-9 declares, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

We take the Bible seriously because we believe it is the living and active Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). It is not merely something we listen to on Sundays, it is the foundation of how we live. As James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

We are learning daily not to lean on our own understanding, but to trust in the Lord with all our heart (Proverbs 3:5-6). We recognize that our hearts can mislead us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). God’s wisdom is far beyond our own, as He declares in Isaiah 55:8-9: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

Because of His grace, we are made new, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). God takes away our heart of stone and gives us a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26), soft and responsive to His Spirit. Our transformation is not by our effort, but by His mercy and power.

We need God every day, not just in times of crisis or trouble. Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11), reminding us of our moment by moment dependence on Him. He also promises in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” We are called to seek Him continually, not casually- to pursue Him with our whole hearts, knowing that He is faithful to respond.
A key part of our faith expression is believer’s baptism by full immersion. We practice baptism as a public declaration of a personal faith in Jesus Christ, symbolizing the believer’s death to sin and resurrection to new life (Romans 6:3–4; Acts 2:41). This is not a means of salvation, but an act of obedience following a genuine commitment to Christ (Matthew 28:19).

Our desire is not just to learn about Jesus, but to follow Him- to walk in obedience, truth, and love by the power of the Holy Spirit. We gather as a community of believers to be shaped by God's Word, challenged in our sin, encouraged in our faith, and sent out to make Christ known.

We exist to glorify God, proclaim the gospel, and live lives that reflect His truth and grace.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"
John 14:6

Community Connection
Building a strong spiritual community is at the heart of our church. At Cornerstone Baptist Church, you will find a warm and welcoming community where you can connect with others, find support, and grow in your faith. We invite you to join us as we journey together in faith and fellowship.
History
Ridgecrest and New Hope Baptist Churches merged to form Hillcrest Baptist Church, worshipping at the 9th Ave building. In 2008, the congregation moved to 805 Sherbrooke Avenue on Kamloops' North Shore. Since the new location wasn't on a hill, the name was changed to Cornerstone Baptist Church- a reflection of Christ as our foundation. We continue to gather as a warm and welcoming community at our Sherbrooke Ave location.
